July Period III - Las Vegas

The Division I open recruiting periods are officially over for 2015 and like each year, our staff attended several tournaments in Las Vegas this past week. With thousands of teams coming in from all over the country, Las Vegas is a great place to see many different players. While driving between high school gyms can become exhausting, we enjoyed seeing some terrific talent this past week.

Now that July is winding down, we are looking forward to cumulating all of our notes from this summer in search of the perfect student-athletes that fit our program. It has been a very busy July and we would like to thank all of the event organizers from this summer that helps us locate some great future Trinity Tigers.

July Period II - Duncanville

This past week the Trinity Basketball coaching staff spent the second July open recruiting period in Duncanville, TX at the Great American Shootout. Mike, Sam, Blue, and the rest of their staff always put on a world-class event that promotes great basketball. We'd like to thank them for the hospitality shown to us each year.

With one open period week remaining, be on the lookout for Trinity Basketball at the BigFoot Classic, Fab48, and Adidas Uprising in Las Vegas, NV this week.

July Period I - LA / Seattle / GMI

This past week was the first week of the July open-recruiting period for NCAA Division I programs, which means some terrific tournaments bringing in hundreds of summer teams to each event. The Trinity Basketball staff used this opportunity to get into various parts of the country and watch some talented student-athletes. Our staff made it out to the following events -

Double Pump Summer Tip-Off Classic - Anaheim, CA - This was a very well run event at the American Sports Center near Disneyland, with so many courts under one roof. It was good to see all of the Southern California programs in action, as well as many teams from out of state. The talent was strong and we look forward to returning to this event for years to come. One highlight of the week was getting to enjoy some food at the iconic Roscoe's House of Chicken & Waffles!

NW Premier Showcase - Seattle, WA - Our staff has enjoyed visiting Bellevue College the past several years for Coach Jeremy Eggers' tournament. It is not only great to see the quality of talent in the Northwest region, but the officials training that takes place at this event is world-class. There is some great teaching going on all around.

GMI - Houston, TX - Jim Hicks' George McLellan Invitational is always a well run event that treats us college coaches extremely well and brings in some of the top teams in the state and region. The basketball was really great, but it may have been outdone by the hospitality room at The Gym.

Next stop this week is to our friends Mike, Sam, and Blue's Great American Shootout in Duncanville, TX for week 2 of July Madness!

San Diego Academic Camp

This week's recruiting trip to the Hoop Mountain Elite Student Athlete Prospect Camp held on the campus of University of California, San Diego was very productive. The Hoop Mountain guys always run a great camp and attract top tier academic student-athletes, which makes it convenient for schools like Trinity to know that each athlete we are watching is also focused on his academics. There were definitely a couple of players that we will continue watching through out this July period.

Class of 2014 Commitments

Trinity Basketball has now received five commitments for the Class of 2014! We are excited to see the following student-athletes in maroon next season:

Jacob Cukjati 6'7 Post - Antonian College Prep, San Antonio, TX - Averaged 10 points and 8 rebounds for a Texas TAPPS 5A state-semifinalist. Voted First Team All-District, Second Team All-State, and Academic All-State as a senior. Jacob has a knack for the basketball, a terrific work ethic and enjoys physical play.

Matt Feldman 5'10 Guard - Punahou School, Honolulu, HI - Averaged 10 points, 6 assists, and 3 steals as a three year letterman, winning a Hawaii State Championship during that time. A Hawaii All-State and ILH All-Star selection his senior season. Matt is a true point guard; quick, terrific ball handler and passer with great court vision, and the ability to make his teammates better.

Zach Lambert 6'4 Wing - Centennial HS, Frisco, TX - Career leader in points, rebounds, blocks, steals, 3pt%, and the most decorated player to come out of Frisco Centennial High School. A three year letterman, voted to the All-District 9-4A First Team two years in a row. Zach is a head smart basketball player, with an ability to score in various ways and defend different positions on the court.

John LaVanway 6'6 Forward - Brophy College Prep, Chandler, AZ - Averaged just under a double double for a top 15 team in Arizona 5A. John is a "team-first" type athlete that has a gift for tracking down rebounds and physical play, coupled with the ability to step outside and knock down shots.

Jonathan Wilt 6'6 Wing - Hamilton HS, Chandler, AZ - Averaged 11 points, 7 rebounds, and 3 assists for an Arizona 5A state semifinalist. Voted to the Arizona Fiesta All-Region First Team as a senior. Jonathan brings great athleticism/explosiveness and has the ability to shoot the three, as well as, break defenders down off of the dribble.

These five are not only accomplished on the basketball court, but probably more so off the court. They are terrific individuals who are looking forward to taking full advantage of playing championship level basketball, while earning one of the top educations in the country.
